Matalon’s Last CCHS Hurrah with Remember Romance

It was a day to remember for Taylor Matalon, who piloted Remember Romance, owned by Matalon Equestrian, to the championship in the Junior Hunter 3’3” 16-17 division. With a third place over fences and fifth under saddle, Matalon and “Rex” returned on day two to win both over fences classes and clinch the tricolor. The top ribbons also earned them the Grand Junior Hunter 3’3” Championship. Matalon was also named the Best Junior 3’3” Rider Award sponsored by Deer Creek Farm LLC.

Matalon and Rex made the most of their last Capital Challenge together as the 17-year-old from Roswell, GA, will move up to the 3’6” for her final junior year. She has ridden Rex for two years, and 2024 was highly successful with a championship at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show as well as USEF Horse of the Year honors.

“He’s been a great partner,” said Matalon of the 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding by Cornet’s Prinz. “He was by far the most special horse when we first saw him. He moves great, jumps amazing, and really wants to win. He’s a blast to ride and covers a lot of ground. “

This is Matalon’s fourth time showing at Capital Challenge but her first championship. “This is our last Capital Challenge with him before he's for sale, so it was a great way to end our partnership,” she related. “I’m very sad that he has to go, but he's been an amazing horse for us.”
